DOMINATE Your Content Marketing Strategy [2019 and Beyond]

Today you're going to learn how to develop a content strategy that will take your content marketing game through the roof.

So if you are a blogger, podcaster, youtuber, coach, or anyone else who attracts clients through the content you put out to the world, then you, my friend, are about to go to the next level!

Content is at the heart of everything you do on social media.  It’s what attracts people, and then mentally, emotionally and energetically captivates them enough to stick with you.

As someone who uses content to position yourself as an authority in your niche, one of the main ways you’re going to have:

  • a positive influence
  • work with more clients
  • and make more money

...is through strategic content creation and implementing a solid content marketing strategy online.

So, if you’re thinking to yourself, “YES, I need that”, then utilize these 6 must-have content strategies to up your game.

When thinking about your content marketing plan your goal is to hit the sweet spot that lies between content that’s valuable to your audience, and content that also serves a business goal.

One of the biggest mistakes I see coaches, bloggers, podcasters, and video creators make is they create content for content’s sake, meaning just to have something to put out there. DON’T DO THAT!

Your goal is to create strategic content that has a purpose and will lead your audience through a funnel.

In order to do that, YOU have to know what you’re working towards, as well as, the actions you’d like them to take.

For example, are you looking to enroll 1:1 clients, or are you going to be selling an online course, or do you have group coaching program coming up that you want your audience to know about.

Once you know what you’re launching, you can then work backwards and begin to develop content themes, and organize these themes into pillars, topics and subtopics. These themes will give you clear direction each week or month so you can position yourself as an expert as you’re leading up to your launch.

As another example, if you’re a fitness coach and you know you’re launching an online course you would want to think about your course framework (meaning, the outline of topics you’re guiding your clients through).  Perhaps your main categories are around Mindset, Nutrition, and Physical Exercise. To get your audience interested and establish your business as an authority, you’ll share micro content (or smaller bits of content) from your course around the topics of mindset, nutrition and physical exercise, without giving away ALL of your expertise, hence leaving them wanting MORE.

You could get this micro content out to the world through blogging, developing a podcast, creating specific playlists on youtube, and/or using the content for social media posts.

Once you share your content,  you’ll then create a clear call-to-action that will guide them to working with you or buying your digital products.

So here’s what this plan looks like:

✅ Know what Products/Programs you plan to launch

✅ Pull Micro Content from framework

✅ Consistently Post with a call to action (blog, vlog, podcast)

✅ Nurture through an email sequence

✅ Enroll

Content Strategy #2: KNOW YOUR NICHE

Having absolute clarity on your niche is imperative when it comes to content creation.  If you don’t know your audience, you won’t know what content they’re searching for, and you may fall into the “creating just to create” category that we talked about earlier.

Now, there are a few ways to know your audience:

  • You can use your existing data to find out. To do this, look back at previous events you’ve hosted,  as well as see who signed up for freebies on your website and social platforms.
  • You can also identify your audience by checking your social media insights, or simply by looking at who has already purchased your products, programs and services.
  • You could survey your current clients and customers and use that data to find out what they like and don’t like, and what they want to hear more of.
  • Lastly, you can create an ideal client avatar based on the content in your current products, programs and services.

Now, if you DON’T have an audience yet, don’t panic. You can easily find folks who are an authority in your niche and begin to check out THEIR audiences and content.

Begin researching who they’re speaking to, what they’re telling their audience is important, and what kind of response they’re getting.  Once you figure that out, you can use that information as a starting point!

What does this mean?  Everyday someone from your niche is going to Google, Pinterest, Youtube or a social media platform and they put text into the search bar.

Once they hit enter,  content comes up. YOU WANT TO BE THAT CONTENT!

The point here is to get inside your ideal clients mind and think about what THEY would search, and then build content based off that to begin to magnetize.

(To see an example of how to create searchable content, watch the video above.)

Content Strategy #4: BUILD AN EMAIL LIST

Once you begin to gain more authority online, you’ll see more and more people responding to your calls to action.  One call to action I regularly give is to “DOWNLOAD this free content upgrade”.

The purpose for this is to give awesome value, build trust, and obtain their email address. Now, here's why this is so important. 👇🏽👇🏽

In March of 2019 both IG and FB went down for a whole day for some business owners (myself included).  I’m sure you can imagine the sheer panic, specifically because these two platforms are how we communicate and stay relevant to our audiences.  This was a huge wake up call for me (and many other business owners) because WE CAN’T CONTROL social media, algorithms, or social shutdowns. You could spend years and hundreds of thousands of dollars to increase your audience online and it could be taken away in a snap ON ANY SOCIAL PLATFORM.

However, one thing that can't be taken away is your email list.  It’s a communication tool that you control in your business regardless of what happens on social.  That’s why it’s so important to build your list.

It gives you quick and direct access to your audience at anytime.

Building an email list can take time, so the sooner you start, the better. A couple simple ways to begin are to add:

  • Free opt-ins at multiple touch points on your website.
  • Content upgrades throughout your social media posts and social media marketing

Once you have your ideal clients' email, your job is to decide how and when you’ll market to them, and begin to automate email marketing sequences to make this an easier process.

Once you’ve created your blog, vlog, or podcast, you’ll need to amplify it, otherwise all your efforts are going to waste (mainly because it won’t be seen by an audience).

Social media is a fantastic tool to use to amplify your content and help set it on FIRE!

Once you post your content, your content amplification plan begins.  It could look like:

  • Paid social (including promoted tweets, paid ads on Youtube or IG, boosting FB posts, or sponsored linkedin articles)
  • Guest blogging
  • Influencer marketing
  • Email marketing
  • And so much more

Your job is to think about how to get your content SEEN by the most eyes so you can grow your authority and increase your influence, impact and income!

Content Strategy #6: TEST, REPORT, REVISE

Friend, I’m going to be super honest with you here!  THIS is where you’re going to be spending a LOT of time.

I’m not sure why entrepreneurs think every single post is going to pop, or they’ll magically get hundreds of thousands of followers overnight right from the beginning, or that their first launch of a product, program or service will make millions.

Every person who has a huge following or a ton of authority on social had to go through split testing and trial & error with content strategies, SEO strategies, ad strategies, and engagement strategies in order to get where they are!

Bottom line, some content will get more engagement than others, some content will convert more than others,  and some content will go viral while others won’t.

The only way you’ll know what’s working and what’s not is by geeking out on analytics and testing your content!

In saying that, monitor your results closely each month to see where minor and major tweaks need to be made in your content. From there, take the content that performed the BEST and try to re-create it with new topics, in different formats or in new and exciting ways.

There you have it friend! Now you have 6 must-have content strategies to expand your reach, increase your client base, and start bringing in more income.
