Instagram SWIPE UP Hack [Without 10K followers]

Ready to use the swipe up feature in your Instagram Story even if you don’t have 10,000 followers yet?!

Say whaaaa?!!!  

The struggle is real getting to 10K followers on the Gram! You already know how important it is to market your business on Instagram.

But even when you’re doing everything “right”,  meaning you’re:

• Posting regularly
• Using strategic hashtags
• Have an optimized bio
• Show up in IG stories all the damn time

... hitting 10K can STILL be extremely challenging in the beginning!

We all so desperately want that swipe up feature,  and I have good news! You can have it NOW, even before you hit 10K!

This is HUGE because we all know that people spend more time in stories than scrolling through feeds, and now you can use your story to send your viewer to any link you want!

For example, if you’re:

• Launching a new course or program you can send them to a sales page
• A YouTuber you can direct them to your latest video 
• Working on building your email list (because I know you’re ALWAYS doing that 😉) you can send them to a lead magnet landing page.

There are so many opportunities with this one little link!

Instagram is a great platform for new people to find you organically, so utilizing stories as a tool in your sales funnel is smart because they’re already getting to know you, and the chances of them taking action and clicking your link increases.   

Okay, so let’s get you going on the swipe up train! Here’s how you do it without having 10,000 followers.

Even if you don’t have 10K followers you, you already have the little link icon in your IG Story. When you click it, your only option is to link to an IGTV video. And that’s awesome because you can include links in your IGTV captions!

So let’s start by deciding what link you want to send them to. This will determine what kind of content you’re going to create. Let’s say you’re sending them to a link where they can download a free template you’re offering.

For your IGTV video, you have a couple of options on how to do it, but keep in mind that your video needs to be a minimum of 1 minute long. 

Your first option is to record yourself talking about the awesome free template that you lovingly created for them, and clearly explain that they can find it in the LINK under the TITLE of this video. Go ahead and point up and to the right in your video too, guiding their eye up.  Not sure what I'm talking about?  Watch minute 2:01 in the video above!

Another option is to pop into Canva, or whatever you use to create graphics, and make one that describes a little about the freebie, and has an arrow in the upper lefthand corner, again directing them where to get the link. Once you’ve done this you’ll make a 1 minute static recording of the image and save it as a video file. Not sure how to do this? Watch minute 2:20 on the video above!

Okay, now that you’ve got your video clip, head over to your IGTV feed and post it. Your title is going to clearly direct people to CLICK THE LINK. We don’t need to be cute or clever in this title, guys. You just want them to click the darn thing. 

Including a downward arrow or pointy-finger will help lead them in the right direction, too. Annnndd… post!

When you post it you’ll have the option to use a frame of the video as the cover image, or you can upload a different photo or image. That’s entirely up to you.

Now let’s head over to your IG Story. Jump in there and do a video letting people know about your free template, or post a selfie with a caption talking about it. At the top of this post you’ll see a little LINK icon.

Click the link, and you’ll see an option to send people to your IGTV - select that, and select the video you just created. Check out minute 3:21 in the video above!

And, ta daaa! You’ll see the little Swipe Up icon at the bottom of your post. Go ahead and get a little fancy with a fun “Swipe Up” GIF too because I know you have been DYING to use one of those!

Post, and there you have it, coach! You just made a Story with the swipe up sending people to the link of your choice.  

Now you know the simple steps to using the swipe up feature without 10K followers.
