Today we’re talking all about blogs, and how to create a blog strategy to create and promote your blog content in a simpler way.
CONTENT is at the heart of what we do as online business owners.
Here’s the thing friend... anyone can create content, but that doesn’t mean it's high quality, valuable content. This is a huge opportunity for you in your coaching business because if you create amazing content that really stands out from all the crap out there, people are going to take notice and eventually take action.
By implementing these 6 key blog strategies, your content is going to help you grow your following, expand your reach, and turn those potential clients into PAYING clients.
Your first step is deciding who you’re talking to and what you want your blog to achieve.
Having audience clarity, as well as, clear goals from the beginning is going to make it so much easier to create targeted, searchable content, and will also allow you to measure the success of your blog once it’s been published.
Here are some of the things your blog can accomplish:
As you can see, you can do A LOT with the content you create, however, if you don’t know who you’re talking to you risk people not seeing it. This is when blogging can be a long, hard, confusing process.
Now, if you haven’t nailed down your ideal client or ideal audience member yet, go ahead and CLICK HERE because I’ve created a blog to make your life a whole lot easier :)
Now that you know who you’re talking to and what you’re striving to achieve, the next step is writing about topics your audience cares about and are searching for!
SEO may sound intimidating and complicated at first, but it’s quite simple when you get the hang of it and can seriously improve your rankings on Google and Pinterest.
Even having a basic understanding, and following simple best-practices will help here.
The first step in an SEO strategy is determining your keyword or keyword phrase (called a long-tail keyword). This is the term that someone is putting in the search bar on Google to find information, answer a question or solve a problem they’re having. When they search a word or phrase you want YOUR content to pop up as the top search result.
There are both free and paid tools you can use to learn about the keywords your ideal clients or audience are searching for. I personally use Keywords Everywhere, and Ubersuggest, however there are other tools like Google Search Console, KeywordFinder, and Moz to help you choose your searchable content.
Once you know the keyword you’d like to rank for, there are multiple places you’re going to use it! Here’s the line up:
And a little pro tip is to be sure you’re using your keywords in the metadata of any images you use throughout your blog.
While we’re on the topic of SEO, it’s also important to mention that the length of your blog also matters when it comes to ranking. Although these numbers can change, at the time of this video, Google is currently liking blog posts over 1,500 words. So, be sure to aim for a minimum of 1500 words per post that you put out.
Remember, it might seem like a lot of work for just one post, but you’ll be able to repurpose it throughout the rest of your content marketing strategy!
If you’re having trouble figuring out what to write about this strategy is for you. The term “skyscraping” means looking through the content of your closest competitors, seeing what’s working best for them, and using those topics to create even BETTER content.
Here’s the thing friend… There are no new topics. There are only repurposed topics. Your job is to choose highly searchable topics that are relevant to your audience and brand, and give more value than what you’re finding on the internet.
To figure out what content is performing well you can use competitor research tools like Ahrefs (pronounced H-refs) or Buzz Sumo that will help you see what content is being clicked on most.
After that, pick highly searchable topics and create content that’s longer, better researched, more up to date, includes better images, or includes some fresh statistics.
Your readers are more likely to take action when you tell them what you’d like them to do! This is what’s called a Call to Action within your content.
A call to action can be to:
These calls to action typically exist in the first paragraph, somewhere in the middle, and then again in the final paragraph of the blog, and are related to whatever topic you’re covering.
If your topic was "blogging for SEO", and you happen to have a mini-course on this topic, you could suggest that your audience CLICK THIS LINK to go check it out.
If you’re talking about the benefits of hiring a business coach for your online business, you can encourage people to contact you to book a call.
Overall, the intention is for your CTA to feel natural, and get people excited to take that next step with you.
Now that your blog is created, includes calls to action, is SEO’d out, and is officially live, you’ll need to promote it!
Not many people subscribe to blogs anymore, so developing a strategy to get it in front of the MOST eyes possible is definitely at the top of the list.
The easiest place to start with this is social media! The moment you post your blog, be sure to post links, images and teasers from that blog on all of your social media platforms that have a following.
--->>>DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP<<<---
You want as many people as possible to see your blog within the first 24 to 48 hours in order to show google that your content is valuable, and to position yourself as a leader.
Then, when you see that one of your blogs is performing particularly well on social media, you can put some budget behind it and boost the post, or set it up as an ad. You’ll specifically want to do this if it includes a lead magnet that will ultimately lead to an upcoming launch!
You can also leverage your blogs in email marketing. When doing this, include small teaser sections in your emails and include a link back to your website where people can read the full article.
And there you have it! The 5 Blog Content Strategies that will help you to create and promote your blog so you can increase your influence, impact and income.
Start here, stay consistent, and you’ll start seeing the benefits of having a killer blog in no time.
